Fans went into a frenzy after the comment made by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn that Marvel would not be at San Diego Comic Con went viral this past weekend. However, Tom Brevoort, Marvel's Senior Vice President of Publishing posted the following on his tumblr when asked about the situation:
I have no idea what Marvel Studios does or does not have planned for San Diego.
Marvel Comics will be there.
So rest easy FOOM (Friends of Ol' Marvel), Marvel will have a presence at SDCC 2015.
Some have pointed out that this is not the first time Marvel Studios has skipped SDCC. In 2011, while there was a heavy Avengers ambiance at the booth, there was no Marvel Studios programing. Sony did present Ghost Rider and Spider-man panels though.
This leaves a nice spot for WB / DC to grab headlines for all their TV and film properties at the annual pop-culture event.
