#EVENTS: Hollywood Gone Geek's Designercon 2013 Pictures and Coverage
11/21/2013
I really dig vinyl collectibles. I don’t collect them, but I can appreciate the style and art of it. So, November 9th I attended the Designer Con (or Dcon as the cool kids call it) event at the Pasadena Convention Center. Dcon is a convention that celebrates vinyl figures, toys, plush and more. A lot of the people exhibiting are creative individuals, not necessarily companies. People who are expressing their creativity through their hobby, which makes for some amazing pieces of work.
I spent nearly $200. I picked up a print by Dave Perillo and one by Tom Whalen. They weren’t there but they are doing a showing of their work in about a week or so. I was planning on going anyway, but now I might bring the prints to have signed. Other than that I grabbed a couple of POP vinyl figures as gifts, including the Pixar D23 set. So, I dropped a little coin.
This is the 3rd year of Dcon and it has been growing at an amazing rate. It jumped from a one day show to a two day event this year. Admission for this past show was a mere $5 a day, which is incredible when you consider other shows you can’t walk in the door for less that $25. So worth it.
