Hello Heroes!

While at San Diego Comic Con 2013 I stopped by the Zenescope Comics booth. Zenescope is one of my favourite comic book companies, they produce really awesome comics like Grimm Fairy Tales, Return To Wonderland and The Jungle Book. I talked to one of the owners Ralph, which you can see here. He talks about the SDCC exclusives, the big new releases and the hot new series Hit List.

HGG MOVIE REVIEW: Justice League - The Flashpoint Paradox

Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, JLA, DC Comics, Review, Flashpoint, Home Media, Monstar, The Flash, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, DVD, Blu-ray, Digital, Download
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox is one of the best animated superhero movies ever.

An event in The Flash’s past has been changed and the present of the entire DC Universe is brutally altered. Directed by Jay Oliva and starring the voice talents of Justin Chambers as The Flash and Kevin McKidd as Batman, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox brings together DC Comics’s superheroes together in an alternate timeline where best friends are bitter enemies.

Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, JLA, DC Comics, Review, Flashpoint, Home Media, Monstar, The Flash, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, DVD, Blu-ray, Digital, DownloadFlashpoint hits the ground running with fun face-off between The Flash and his infamous Rogues Gallery. A greater threat is revealed in the Reverse Flash and the Justice League steps in to aid the scarlet speedster. The next morning Barry Allan wakes to find himself in an alternate timeline in which his long deceased mother is still alive. That is his first introduction to this new world where somethings are familiar, but drastically different. Batman is not Bruce Wayne, but his father Thomas. In this world Bruce is the one that died in Crime Alley instead of Thomas. In this world, Barry was never in the accident that gave him his Flash speed. The powerless hero nearly kills himself trying to recreate the occurrence that gave him access to the speed force.

Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, JLA, DC Comics, Review, Flashpoint, Home Media, Monstar, The Flash, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, DVD, Blu-ray, Digital, DownloadMeanwhile, this world’s Amazons are at war with the Atlanteans. Aquaman, having sunk Western Europe continues to advance while Wonder Woman has led the Amazons in conquering Great Britain. Both factions are heading to their inevitable confrontation, with a captured Captain Atom is being held as Aquaman’s ultimate weapon.

The newly re-powered Flash is unable to break the time barrier as another speedster is syphoning the speed force in this timeline. Without that ability to stop this Butterfly Effect, Flash, Batman and Cyborg seek out this world’s Superman for help. Except in the Flashpoint timeline, Kal-El crash landed in the middle of Metropolis as oppose to Kansas and has been contained under an artificial red sun for 30 years.

With the war coming to a head, the real reason for the timeline is reveled and in the midst of the world’s end The Flash is left to save everyone at the sacrifice of a loved one.

The voice actors were all on point. Aquaman’s ferocity comes though, as does The Flash’s sorrow for his mother. Brilliant casting, including the return of Ron Perlman as Deathstroke, Dana Delany as Lois Lane and Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne.

Thomas Wayne Batman is the stand out character here. Just when you thought Batman could not get any grim and grittier, Thomas Wayne shows up to takes you to darker places. Imagine the Batman you know, but very, very pissed off.

Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, JLA, DC Comics, Review, Flashpoint, Home Media, Monstar, The Flash, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, DVD, Blu-ray, Digital, DownloadWonder Woman and Aquaman are really given their due in Flashpoint, especially the King of the Sea. While Wonder Woman has always been considered a bad ass, Aquaman really shows just how much of a threat he can be. When these two lock up, it’s brutal.

There is a nice post-credits nod to the upcoming Justice League: War movie to look forward to as well.

Making full use of it’s PG-13 rating, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox pulls no punches; the world is at war and there are plenty of casualties. Heroes and villains fall but still within the context of the movie. The violence and deaths are not gratuitous and really add to the sense of danger in this world. Anything can happen and no one is safe.

While I have recently re-read the Flashpoint DC Comics series, one doesn’t have to be well versed in the source material to enjoy the movie, but it does make it a far richer experience delving in to that world; especially the origins of the Amazon/Atlantean war.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox is a full throttle thrill ride from beginning to end. You don’t want to live in the world of Flashpoint, but it’s one hell of a place to visit.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox is available now on DVD and Blu-ray.

HOME MEDIA: Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox Animated Movie Trailer

Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek, Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox, Trailer, JLA, The Flash, Reverse Flash, Justice League, Exclusive, Home Media, Superhero, Animated Movie, DCAU, Limited, Amazon

This Tuesday, July 30th, Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox comes to DVD and Blu-Ray. The all new animated movie from DC Entertainment is based on the blockbuster cross-over series that took place in 2011.

If you have not read the original Flashpoint series, it was pretty awesome. A new world is born from an event that was changed in the past. The present has been altered and our planet is now one that is caught in the middle of a war between the Amazons and Atlanteans.

I really got deep in to this series, between all the spin-offs and one-shots that accompanied the main series. So, I am looking forward to watching this movie to see how it translates.

Get a taste of what is to come with the trailer for Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox right here:

You can pre-order the movie from Amazon right now by clicking here!

You getting this? Drop a comment and let me know. I’ll have a review of the movie up shortly.

Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox  Synopsis:
We all wish for the chance to go back in time and change the things, for The Flash, that coveted chance is within reach. He traverses time to right a violent, decades-past crime against his mother, but the ripples of his good intentions prove disastrous, as a fractured, alternate reality now exists in place of the familiar one. Stumbling through this twisted reality where even Superman is nowhere to be found, The Flash seeks the trusted wisdom of Batman, only to find a grittier, more violent Dark Knight in his place. Together with the help of Cyborg, they race to restore the continuity of Flash's original timeline while this new world is ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman's Amazons and the Atlanteans, led by a battle hardened Aquaman. With breath taking action and an all-star voice cast featuring Kevin Conroy, C. Thomas Howell and Dana Delany, it's a bold, emotional vision that will forever change the landscape of the DC Universe!

Hello Heroes!

While at San Diego Comic Con I took some time to interview some of the amazing cosplayers that were at the event. One of which is my friend, the beautiful Kendall Karson. She was cosplaying as a very sexy Wonder Woman.

For you fans of live-action superheroes, you may notice that I was cosplaying as the 1974 Wonder Woman from the Cathy Lee Crosby TV movie. How is that for obscure, LOL.

Let me know what you think of the video by posting a comment here or on youtube. I have a lot more videos that are being posted, so keep watching.

HOME MEDIA: Best Buy’s Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox Blu-ray Contains Exclusive Reverse Flash Figurine

Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek, Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox, Best Buy, JLA, The Flash, Reverse Flash, Justice League, Exclusive, Home Media, Superhero, Animated Movie, DCAU, Figurine, Limited, Amazon
Excited about the upcoming DC Entertainment animated movie Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox? This feature length adventure makes it’s home media debut July 30th. From what I have seen so far, it really looks good. Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox is based on the series that came out a couple of years ago that changed the entire DC Comic Book universe and launched the “New DC 52”.

Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox
prominently features The Flash and his arch-nemesis Professor Zoom, better known as The Reverse Flash. To add some more excitement to the mix, a limited amount of copies available at Best Buy come with an exclusive Reverse Flash figurine.

Best Buy has been doing this for awhile. In conjunction with DC Entertainment animated film releases; limited edition exclusive figures have been made available. I actually have several of them (like Brainiac, Batman and Joker) as it's been an incentive for me to walk into a Best Buy store, LOL.
Best Buy Flashpoint

Generally the figures are about 2 inches tall and have limited articulation (arms, neck) and come attached to a base.

If you don’t care about a Reverse Flash figurine, you can pick up Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox on Blu-Ray for significantly less at Amazon; currently $13.99 versus Best Buy’s $24.99.

The Justice League – The Flashpoint Paradox blu-ray arrives in stores tomorrow. You getting this? Drop a comment and let me know. I’ll have a review of the movie up shortly.

VIDEO: Watch The DC Collectibles "New 52" Action Figure Promo Teaser!

Dc Comics, Viral Video, Video, Commercial, Toys, Action Figures, New 52, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Darkseid, The Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Aquaman
DC Collectibles has released a video promoting their line of New 52 universe action figures. It’s an incredibly cool 16-second clip that features Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman taking on Darkseid; all in action figure form.

This video reminds me of the old school commercials you use to see on Saturday mornings, albeit with some pretty nifty CGI. Also of note is that this was labeled as a “teaser” indicating that there was more to come. I’m looking forward to that!

Are you picking up any of these DC New 52 figures? If you have not yet, there is a box set available to jump start your collection. Which you can grab here!

Phil's Favorite Toy Scores From SDCC 2013

DSCN0689

In the middle of all the chaos at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, I happened to pick up a few things that I’m very happy with.

I drove to San Diego on Wednesday to pick up my badge early and attend Preview Night. This was my first preview night and it was insane! All booths where in full force, selling everything! The big question in my head was which booth do I hit first?! Comic and toy fanatics were running the floor like mad and everything seemed to be a big blur until I saw this huge, gigantic Shogun Warriors style Batman all the way in the 5000’s row. It was the Funko booth and that was my main stop for the night. I would say I got to the Funko booth in about 5 minutes from the doors being opened and the line was already cut and already a mile-long.

After about five attempts of joining the others in line, victory was mine... so I thought. After getting in, it still took about an hour for me to start shopping in the Funko store. Well in line I was investigating and checking out all the exclusives in the display window the main figure that I really wanted was the beheaded Game of Thrones Ned Stark! The Ned Stark was the last reveal of the mystery exclusives from Funko. About 40% of the shelves were bare, so I thought my chances of getting some cool stuff was slim. But I happened to get exactly what I wanted. I purchased Ned Stark, Disney Oswald, Black Superman, Unmasked Ironman and a whole bunch of the Disney Behind the Mask Vinylmations.

I hit-up the Super7 booth next to purchase some Alien Reaction figures 2-pack and a Pocket Rose Vampire, but the line was way too long for me. By Thursday the Alien figures have sold out and I was not lucky enough to grab those but I did eventually grab my Rose Vampire for 25 bucks and I think on Friday those sold out as well.

DSCN0720

Ever since this Japanese vinyl figure was revealed as a SDCC exclusive, I was super excited. I’m talking about Mike Egan’s LUCKY devil figure. I’m a huge fan of Mike’s paintings and his first figure release “Bones”. Lucky came in either black or orange and was an edition of 100 split down the middle. While holding both black and orange figures in my hands at the DKE booth, the decision was hard. I finally decided on the orange! This was a good score for $60. DSCN0718

On Friday my mission was to get in the Mattel line first thing in the morning to pick up the Batman “Batusi TV!” exclusive with the hip, dancing Adam West figure & the groovy, retro package artwork by Shag! I snuck through security 15 minutes early before the doors even opened. I headed to the Mattel line and everything was almost sold out! The people working for Mattel were big asses and very rude. I felt like a grade-school kid getting in that line and being bullied by a bunch of Mattel workers. I did eventually get in line and dealt with the Mattel police to pick up my exclusive Batman figure. I grabbed one for $30 and just for the fun of it, I picked up Hot Wheels A-Team van exclusive. I pity the fool who didn’t get a Batusi Batman! DSCN0732
DSCN0733
DSCN0734
Sorry for the crappy picture. It's hard to get a good shot with those clear window displays!

Now, it wouldn’t have been a true Comic Con experience without picking up something in the Star Wars category. As I was walking through all the vinyl-collectible booths, something caught my eye... DARTH PON! This awesome Pon Wars piece from Kuso Vinyl is a really cool spin on Mr. Vader. At only $12, I had to own one! I’m very happy with this purchase. “Who’s your DADDY!” PonWars

I had a awesome time picking up all of these toys and meeting some cool guys along the way. I'll post some more SDCC scores soon! Check back soon.

HOME MEDIA NEWS: Universal Offers Child’s Play On Blu-ray With Chucky: The Complete Collection!

Curse of Chucky, Universal, Horror, Chucky: The Complete Collection, Child’s Play, home media, blu-ray, DVD
I didn’t see this coming. I knew The Curse of Chucky was set to be released on October 8th, but now the good people at Universal are offering up a collection for you completist. Chucky: The Complete Collection hits blu-ray on October 8th, the same day as Curse of Chucky.

The Chucky: The Complete Collection includes:
Child's Play
Child's Play 2
Child's Play 3
Bride Of Chucky
Seed Of Chucky
Curse Of Chucky

The Curse Of Chucky will be the same disc that is released in the single title package.

This is actually a cool move by Universal. I’m sure as you have been burned by picking up an installment of a franchise then seeing a “collection” released shortly after. I know I have. It kinds sucks for fans, because you want to support the brand. Thankfully, Universal gives you the opportunity to either pick up Curse of Chucky on its own, or score the entire series with Chucky: The Complete Collection on blu-ray for a few bucks more.

Both Chucky: The Complete Collection and Curse of Chucky can be pre-ordered from Amazon.
