NEWS: Stan Lee Tweet Spoils Amazing Spider-man #700 Ending?

Spiderman, Dan Slott, Stan Lee, Marvel Comics, Spiderman dead, ASM 700, Dr Octopus, Superior Spiderman, Superhero, Peter Parker, Dead, Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @Hwoodgonegeek

Stan Lee was tweeting with current Spider-man writer Dan Slott on twitter in regards to shocking going ons in the latest Amazing Spider-Man comic book. If you don't know already...

SPOILER!

Doctor Octopus transferred his mind into the body of Spider-man, while putting Peter Parker's mind into his decrepit body....which dies.

Well,  Good 'ol Stan celebrates his 90th birthday on December 28th and tweeted this message to Dan:

Spiderman, Dan Slott, Stan Lee, Marvel Comics, Spiderman dead, ASM 700, Dr Octopus, Superior Spiderman, Superhero, Peter Parker, Dead, Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @Hwoodgonegeek

@DanSlott what a gift, some guys give a nice cigar, a watch, but no not you, I get a dead #PeterParker Thanks for the bday wishes my friend!

Stan should have made a spoiler alert (like the one I just did above) as he tweeted that revelation to his nearly half million followers who may not have had a chance to read the issue in question, Amazing Spider-man #700, LOL. In all fairness, many news sites had already been letting the cat out of the bag, as noted in Stan's tweet about MTV Geek's coverage.

Either way, Happy Birthday Stan! And good-bye Peter Parker.

So yeah. My planned 12 day tribute to Luke Cage was only 6. Unfortunately, I just didn't have enough time to dedicate to it. Which sucks because there is such a wealth to the character that I would like to revisit a Power-Man tribute again in the future.

When I first thought about the project it was going to be just me posting some of the more iconic cover and comment on them, but then it just kinda grew because I wanted to write about the different aspects of the character.

So expect to be seeing the Hero For Hire here on this site.

Until then, here is more Luke.

Luke Cage rocked the classic shiny yellow shirt, buccaneer boots and afro well into the 80's but alas, all good things must come to an end. Luke went through some "updates" that were "ok" I guess. I was not into them.

I don't dig my superhero looking like he was a bouncer at one of the clubs.

In what must have been the smartest move ever, they put ol' Mr. Cage back into a yellow shirt, slapped on some huge gauntlets and gave him a pretty bad ass new look. This guy looks like he can whoop some ass.

Merchandising of Luke Cage, Hero For Hire

Shockingly there has not been much in the way of cool things you could buy that showcase Power Man. Spider-man, you can find toothbrushes, soap dishes even a toilet seat cover. But what about Luke? Not a lot so let's cherish what we do have.

A really cool Magnet - I actually have this on my refrigerator right now. Get one from the good people of Mega Mega Magnets. Classic Luke, fists up and ready to keep you from over snacking.

T-shirts - There are a couple of Luke Cage T-shirts, but like all things Luke, they are far and few between. Oddly, I have not seen one for guys, just in women's sizes. The lovely Tanya Tate models one for us right here while holding some of the Funko POP figures she reviews on (plug) JustaLottaTanya.com

Christmas Ornament. A Sweet Christmas ornament.

But that's about it. Maybe in the future we'll see more of Mr. Cage. I'm not saying I need Power Man Toaster (because I already have a Spider-man one), though that would be cool.

Luke Cage Action Figure

There have been a few Power Man action figures that have been produced over the years. Some are hit and some are miss, but it is cool that Luke has been given some love by the Marvel Toy gods.

Marvel Comics, 12, Luke Cage, Hero For Hire, 12 Days Of Sweet Christmas, Iron Fist, Power Man, Superhero, Comic Book, 70's, Retro, Blaxploitation, Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek
The first Power Man figure I had seen was the Marvel Gold one, which was pretty horrible. I mean, check out the thigh in relation to his head. What the hell were they thinking? I was never a Toy Biz fan and while I did dig the wide range of figures they produced, man, that is just horrible.

Marvel Comics, 12, Luke Cage, Hero For Hire, 12 Days Of Sweet Christmas, Iron Fist, Power Man, Superhero, Comic Book, 70's, Retro, Blaxploitation, Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek
The best representation of a Luke action figure is the Marvel Legends figure. The articulation on this cat is incredible. Even his fingers are articulated. The sculpt is awesome, just an all around solid figure.

Marvel Comics, 12, Luke Cage, Hero For Hire, 12 Days Of Sweet Christmas, Iron Fist, Power Man, Superhero, Comic Book, 70's, Retro, Blaxploitation, Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek

The second best Luke figure is the more recently released Marvel Universe 3 3/4 inch. This one came in a two-pack with Iron Fist which made this an easy buy. It really does not get better than this. I do want to note that Luke had a previous MU figure released, however it was of his more "modern" look. I'm not too big a fan of this one, as it just looks like some dude hanging out.

Marvel Comics, 12, Luke Cage, Hero For Hire, 12 Days Of Sweet Christmas, Iron Fist, Power Man, Superhero, Comic Book, 70's, Retro, Blaxploitation, Hollywood Gone Geek, HGG, @HwoodGoneGeek
A missed opportunity was made by Mego in the 70's. Power Man would have been a perfect character for their World's Greatest Heroes line, joining the likes of Captain America, Human Torch, The Falcon, Spider-man and Thor. While it didn't come to pass, some creative individuals have taken to customizing their own versions, like the one above. Pretty awesome, I hope to make one myself. (Luke Cage custom by megalomaniac001)

So while there is not an abundance of Cage figures, he has found some representation in the medium; Minimates even has a Marvel's Zombies version of Luke. One figure that really needs to get made and one that I am holding out for is a Power Man Super Hero Squad figure. Now that would be Sweet.

NEWS: 5 Things I Didn't Like About The MAN OF STEEL Trailer

Superman, Man of Steel, Poster, Handcuffs, General Zod, June 14th, Trailer, Kal El, Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill, Marketing, Movie News, Geek, Entertainment, DC Comics, Superhero, Wb, Warner Bros, 5 Things I Didn't Like About, Top 5, Pa Kent

Before we start, you have seen it already, right? If not, go here.

Ok, and here we go. I'm not 100% on board yet. Trust me, I want to be, but I'm not there. What has been presented so far either seems kinda like a downer or stuff we are already familiar with.

Superman, Man of Steel, Poster, Handcuffs, General Zod, June 14th, Trailer, Kal El, Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill, Marketing, Movie News, Geek, Entertainment, DC Comics, Superhero, Wb, Warner Bros, 5 Things I Didn't Like About, Top 5, Pa Kent
1.) Young Clark has to hide his powers, yes, yes, We know about that already. Why does it that take up as much space in the trailer as it does is odd. The overall message seems to be that Kal/Clark will be a hero. But...again, we know that. We know Superman will be the hero, he's pretty much the definition of hero. I'm not very excited to see a story where Kal grows into Superman, we had that for 10 years in Smallville.

2.) Superman in chains? That's kinda lame. Batman in chains is interesting because you know he's in some element of danger. Superman? It's a chuckle because you know with a flick of the wrist, he's outta there.

Superman, Man of Steel, Poster, Handcuffs, General Zod, June 14th, Trailer, Kal El, Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill, Marketing, Movie News, Geek, Entertainment, DC Comics, Superhero, Wb, Warner Bros, 5 Things I Didn't Like About, Top 5, Pa Kent
3.) The random explosions are just that. there is not context as to danger, or danger to the only person in this trailer we care about; Superman. Just shit blowing up. Which is all well and fine, I like some movies where shit blows up for two hours. But that is not what I want from Superman.

4.) Michael Shannon as General Zod? That's cool, but he is always going to be "Lynard" from Let's Go To Prison to me. Which was a great movie BTW.

Superman, Man of Steel, Poster, Handcuffs, General Zod, June 14th, Trailer, Kal El, Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill, Marketing, Movie News, Geek, Entertainment, DC Comics, Superhero, Wb, Warner Bros, 5 Things I Didn't Like About, Top 5, Pa Kent
5.) Pa Kent suggestion Clark should have let some kid die. Oh, come on now. Jonathan and Martha Kent were pretty much the ideal parents. They made Clark into the man he became. That was their strength, their power to be awesome parents and instill a sense of right and wrong into what will become the world's greatest hero. ...And "maybe" Clark should have let the kid die?

What did I like? Well, right now there is not too much for me to like. We have not really seen much to sink one's teeth into. Like I said initially, I want to be all about this movie. But right now I'm not.

What do you think? Did the trailer excite you or was it kinda there? Leave a comment below.

Power Man And Iron Fist #50
It says it right there on the cover; Beginning: A New Era of Greatness! And so it was for the next seventy-five issues. #50 marks the teaming up of Luke Cage and Danny Rand as Heroes For Hire. The striking cover images say it all, the heroes in vivid color rushing at you ready for action while in the background you get a glimpse of what they are going to be encountering; Gambling, the cops getting blasted, super powered bad guys, street crime and of course, hot babes. This issue marked an exciting new turn and perfectly captures the 70's vibe.

Are you heroes and heroines ready for the Man of Steel? We are still awhile away from the movie's release, but the WB marketing machine is really starting to open up with info on what I'm sure will come to be known as Justice League Phase 1.

Superman launches into flight in this trailer and there is one bit that could possibly be a great moment in the movie right here:

Looks like Superman is about to throw down with someone, hopefully Zod. Maybe he'll throw his ass into a big neon Coca-Cola sign.

Amazing Spider-man #123
Another bad ass cover that features Luke is Amazing Spider-man #123. You have to hand it to Luke, he comes in as a guest star for an issue and how does he make his debut? By handing the star back his ass on the cover. Luke sends Spider-man flying high above New York City. Though I have no idea what a "Strap-Hanger" type is.

Luke Cage. He is a bad mother fucker. Created in the early 70's Luke busted on to the superhero scene in Marvel Comics' Luke Cage, Hero For Hire #1. Who is this man who kicked ass in a gold shirt and silver tiara? Luke was a man who was locked up for a crime he did not commit. While in the joint, he went through an experiment that made his skin super strong as well as increasing his muscles abilities.

Unlike most heroes, Luke did not go in for the common good...well, at least not as first. He became a hero to get paid. After awhile he began teaming up with another 70's creation, martial arts master; Iron Fist. Together they formed Heroes For Hire. Since, Luke has gone on to join The Avengers.

One of Luke's catch phrases is "Sweet Christmas!" And so is the name of this tribute to one of comicdom's most badass superheroes. Welcome to the 12 Days of Sweet Christmas.

Luke Cage, Hero For Hire #15
The cover is incredibly impactful. Our hero, Luke, is chained but not for long! As his past has come back to haunt him, it can't keep him down. And chained he may be....He's busting out! You can see the rage on Luke's face, this is it man. Things are going to go down. Great cover and my choice for number twelve.

HOME MEDIA: Cathy Lee Crosby Wonder Woman & Superboy Season 2 Debut On DVD

Warner Archive Collection, Superboy, Wonder Woman, DVD, WAC, Warner Bors, Superhero, Cathy Lee Crosby, Season 2, 1974, Home Media, Movie, Tv Series, Entertainment, Geek News, Hollywood Gone Geek, @HwoodGoneGeek, HGG, Video, Teaser Trailer
Well, here is something that caught me by surprise. Turns out that the 1974 pre-Lynda Carter Wonder Woman is finally going to make it to DVD. Thanks to the awesome Warner Archive Collection we'll get to see Wonder Woman's first live action adventure.

Synopsis:
Before Lynda Carter took the heroine back to World War II for her “New, Original” incarnation, statuesque Tennis Pro turned performer Cathy Lee Crosby swung the magic lasso in a very different TV incarnation. As developed by scribe John D.F. Black (Star Trek, Shaft), and seemingly influenced by her recent turn as a mod, cat-suited crime-fighter in the pages of her DC Comics home, this Amazon Princess was more superspy than superhero. But fret not, four-color fans! Many of the expected wondrous elements from bracelets and lassos to Paradise Island and invisible jets, all make an appearance, albeit with a sleek, seventies espionage superaction refit. Ricardo Montalban plays the laconic lothario who lurks at the top of a conspiracy to make off with ultra-secret code books, leading Agent Prince to discover an Amazon sister-in-exile (Anitra Ford)

If you have seen this before you know it's a little different that what you have come to expect from our favorite amazon. Still, it is a nice watch and for $14.95, I have no issue adding it to my collection. Wonder Woman 1974 is now available for pre-order with a 12/11/12 release date.

Also Superboy season 2 comes to DVD. Being that I just picked up season 1 for a couple of bucks off of Amazon, I'll grab this one as well. This 3-disc 26 episode set is also available on 12/11/12.

How about a little teaser trailer:

Look for reviews on these releases soon.

Here is something entirely cool. On the official Marvel website four new images from Iron Man 3 were released. One of which is a nice clean picture of Iron Patriot piloted by James Rhodes. We also see Robert Downy Jr as Tony Stark, of course, and Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen. The fourth image is that of the busted helmet of Iron Man.

Lots of good info is provided here, including the movie's synopsis:

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Iron Man 3 comes out May 3rd, 2013

NEWS: Man Of Steel Poster Revealed - Superman Handcuffed!

Superman Man of Steel Poster Chains Handcuffs Movie
The new Man of Steel movies poster has been reveled. After a quick look at it, I'm left rather perplexed. Not as much with "Why the hell is the Man of Steel in steel cuffs?" but more like what is up with the WB marketing?

I mean, it appears they are trying hard to do away with the "big blue boy scout" image that Superman has had for the last 75+ years and make him more "gritty".

Superman, Man of Steel, Poster, Handcuffs, Chains, Jail, June 14th, Teaser, Kal El, Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill, Marketing, Movie News, Geek, Entertainment, DC Comics, Superhero, Wb, Warner Bros

The first released promo image we got to see of Superman looked like he just cracked open a safe. This pic came to be known as "Bank Robber Superman" by me. Now you have him getting locked up by the man? Maybe Superman will spilt in two like he did in Superman III and this is his bad side.

I'm sure all will be revealed when Man of Steel comes out June 14th, 2013.
